Portland Lactation Services
We offer many types of appointments to meet your needs. Our passion is providing in-home care but we can also meet virtually for telehealth appointments, if needed. We serve all of greater Portland as well as Gresham, Happy Valley, Oregon City, Gladstone, Milwaukie, Clackamas, and Vancouver. If you live outside of a 10 mile radius of SE Portland, there may be a travel fee which will be assessed based on your location.
Prenatal Lactation Consultation
In this appointment we meet during pregnancy to discuss any questions or concerns you have about breastfeeding. We can meet in your home or virtually to review our breastfeeding course, help you create a feeding and/or pumping plan, and address any feeding concerns you may have. This is also a great opportunity to get sized for pump flanges and go over pump set up. Prenatal consultations usually last 1- 2 hours, depending on your needs.
Brief Prenatal Lactation Consultation
In this appointment we will spend about 40 minutes helping you feel prepared to meet your baby and going over any specific questions or concerns you may have.
Initial In-Home Consultation
Our initial consultation includes a thorough health history and examination of both you and your baby, observation and assessment of how your baby feeds, including a pre- and post-feed weight to assess baby's intake while feeding, and time to address any questions or concerns you may have. Within 24 hours of our time together, you will receive a detailed customized care plan along with any necessary referrals and additional information. For this 90 minute appointment, it is helpful for your baby to be ready to feed.
Follow Up In-Home Consultation
While some breastfeeding challenges may be fully addressed at the initial visit, most people find at least one follow up consultation to be necessary and helpful. Typically, we will have another feeding assessment at this appointment which allows us to assess your progress and make adjustments to your care plan as needed. Follow up consultations are generally 1 hour in length and include another detailed customized care plan.
Telehealth Consultation
Initial (60 minute) and follow up (30 minute) telehealth appointments include most of the components of in-person initial and follow up appointments. These appointments are best for those outside our travel radius or for people who need support that does not require infant weights or detailed examination of either you or your baby. Prenatal, return to work, bottle refusal, and weaning consultations are potentially good options for this type of appointment.
